Day Trip Up North

On Saturday we decided to take a road trip up north to visit Nanny King and Grandmama Challis. It was also Olivia's 1st birthday so it was nice to be there to help her celebrate!

All 3 girls were great and enjoyed the drive up. Chiara slept most of the way and Leilani and Emily mainly listened to music on the ipods with their headphones so it was quite peaceful!

Our first stop was Nanny Kings's house. She spoilt us with a yummy lunch that included Banana Caramel Pie for dessert!

We then headed off to Grandmama's house and she loaded us up with fresh radishes, spinach and snow peas - straight out of her garden! The kids had fun looking at all the photos and finding Daddy's baby picture!

Our next and final stop was Matt & Kristy's house in the Tamar Valley. It's beautiful up there and even though it started raining as we arrived it was lovely to be out in the country.

Leilani & Emily said when they get a bit older they are going to come up and go for a ride on one of Kristy's horses! They seemed quite keen - much to my surprise!

Olivia is such a little cutie - she has been walking for a couple of months now and is so clever! She loved playing with her Uncle Mick and couldn't stay away from him! Gus had a great time playing with Lani and Emily and when it was birthday cake time he stepped up as the 'big brother' and helped Olivia blow out her candle!

We headed back home late in the afternoon so we were feeling quite exhausted by the time we got home, but it was nice to get away for the day.

Nothing beats a clean & beautifully smelling baby straight out of the bath!

First Outing - Day 5

Uncle Matt was working in Hobart a few days after we got home from Hospital with Chiara, so he stopped in for a quick cuddle. It was great to see him.

My first 'outing' with Chiara was to take her to visit Nan & Pop in Huonville. After I picked Leilani up from school we headed down there - just the girls and I! It felt good to get out, but it did make me feel tired!

While visiting with Nan & Pop Leilani & Emily headed over to Brady & Ruby's house for a play, they had a fabulous time playing with Brady's guns and didn't want to leave!!

While at Melinda's, Jaclyn got to have her first cuddle too and Ruby seemed very interested in the new little baby. I don't think Chiara even opened her eyes. She looks very jaundiced in these photos - which she was, and even the whites of her eyes were quite yellow.  It seemed to be at its worst on about day 5 & 6 and then slowly cleared up.

Chiara Comes Home

Leilani & Emily were super excited to finally be taking Chiara home, oh and their Mummy! They came and picked me up from hospital at about 9.30am on Monday morning. I was feeling really tired as I didn't get much sleep the night before (Chiara's worst night to date!) but was really happy to be heading home with Mick and our 3 girls.

Leilani was going to head to school at lunch time but ended up having the whole day off to cuddle her new little sister! I slept for a couple of hours, which was great but made me feel really jet-lagged and messed up! Thankful that has been the only day I have felt sleep-deprived as Chiara has been a great sleeper ever since.

All we hear at our house now is... Can I have a hold???

{Notice Chiara is holding a cute little toy giraffe here... Emily loves giving her toys to play with!!}

{Aunty Elle called in and we gave Chiara her first bath at home, she cried a bit, but liked it a lot better than her first bath in hospital.}

The People You Meet In Hospital!

We had a few more visitors on Sunday which was nice, including cousins Charlie and Mollie. We didn't get a photo of 4 month old Mollie but she reminded us how quickly they grow in just a short amount of time! Only seems like yesterday we were in visiting Scott, Katrina and newborn Mollie in hospital. Chiara was a good girl for her visitors and slept pretty much the whole time.

The girls popped back in for another visit on their way home from church. I don't think they could stay away. I knew the girls would want to come and visit with us often while we were in the hospital but I didn't think it would be as hard as it was for them to leave every time.
I remember when I had Emily, it was hard for Leilani to say goodbye and she got quite upset at the time - which then made me upset, but she was only 2 then and it was more because she missed her mum. I thought the girls would be fine this time but they were so desperate to stay and hold their new little sister they really struggled saying goodbye, and most of the  time they wanted to stay - well I think they really just wanted to take Chiara home!
Once they left they were fine and had a great time with Grandma & Grandad but I think it was a hard couple of days for them knowing Mummy & Daddy were in the hospital with the new baby and they couldn't stay with us.

I had a nice restful afternoon on Sunday, just Chiara & I, as we decided Mick should go and stay at home with the girls because they had already been at Grandmas for 3 nights now. We also weren't getting a real lot of sleep in the hospital so thought it best that at least one of us get some shut eye tonight! So Mick went down to Mum & Dads for dinner and then took the girls home. I missed not having him in hospital with me, but ended up with quite a bit of company in the end as Lisa came and visited that night which was really nice and then I also found out that my Boss from Salamanca Inn was actually staying in hospital as well because he and his wife had just had their 3rd baby!!!

It was really funny actually because I had seen on Facebook earlier in the day that they had their baby, but I wasn't really sure which hospital they were in. As Lisa was leaving that evening I was telling her about Andrew and Emma and how I was wondering if they were 'just down the hall' and as I opened my door to say goodbye, who did we see - Andrew! He was actually chatting to a Midwife to see if I was here - as he had also read on FB that I had my baby! We had a quick chat in the corridor and then he went and got Emma and their new little baby boy Frank and we spent the next hour or so chatting in my room! It was great to catch up with them and so exciting that we had both had our 3rd babies together! They had their 3rd boy and we had our 3rd girl!!!!!

The hospital was actually really busy the whole time we were in there and I feel really grateful that we even got a birthing suite. Andrew & Emma missed out and were stuck in this tiny little room down the other end of the corridor (until I checked out the next day and they asked for my room!!!) We also bumped in to some other friends from church on Sunday morning who had just given birth to their 2nd child earlier that morning, so it was all happening at the Hobart Private on show weekend!!

A BIG thank you to everyone that came and visited us while in hospital, and for all the lovely gifts Chiara was given. It's a shame I didn't get a photo of everyone who visited - but we remember who you are and we really appreciated it.

3 Beautiful Girls

Chiara slept pretty well on her first night, I didn't really get a whole lot of sleep though mainly because of all the noises she was making! She was spitting up quite a bit of mucus and making a lot choking sounds which caused me to jump up every time I heard a slight gargle!

We had a few visitors come in the morning and then after lunch Mum brought Leilani and Emily back in so that we could give Chiara her first bath.  She cried pretty much the whole time she was in the bath and the girls didn't really know what to think (first time they had really heard her cry) it actually upset them a little I think. Once she was dressed and warm, everyone was happy again! It's so nice to have them all clean and smelling fresh!

We feel so lucky to have 3 beautiful little girls, and no  - we don't wish she was a boy, we are more than happy with what we've got!
